About Us

Mission:  Lutherville Laboratory is an engaged, diverse, and connected community, united in our commitment to nurture in every child harmony and respect in themselves, with others, and for the world around us, thus empowering children with a lasting foundation to pursue excellence in future endeavors.

A Brief History

Originally built in 1951, Lutherville Elementary opened as BCPS’s first new school in the era of desegregation. The school was closed from 1983-1993 while the building was used by the recreation council and fire department. Lutherville reopened in 1993 as Lutherville Laboratory, a magnet school for science, math, and communications. The magnet program phased out in 2017, when Lutherville transitioned to exceptionally serving its zoned community, and in 2019 students from the region with exceptional social and emotional needs as well. With incredible support from our PTA and community, we continue to pridefully reach and teach all students who walk through our doors, with a focus on student connection, high levels of engagement, environmental science enrichment, and caring for the whole child: Minds On. Whole Hearts. All IN!
