We believe in empowering students to communicate in a variety of ways, through the use of traditional written modes as well as digital modalities, to prepare them for the next millennium.
- Television Studio – students produce daily morning announcements that incorporate weather, current events, school activities, jokes, and curricular connections; students take on all production roles, including camera, audio, script-writing, and “on-air talent”
- Communication Club – students utilize digital photography, videography, and multimedia tools to capture and report on school and community events
- Interactive whiteboards – students participate in multi-disciplinary lessons that integrate the Internet, Promethean and Mimeo technologies, and school-based databases
- Poetry Workshop –students author original poems through our PTA-sponsored poetry lessons presented by the Maryland State Arts Council
- Distance Learning – students communicate with a global community of scientists and learners through video-conferencing
- Media Center – students learn to be 21st century users of technology; lessons include the use of blogs, wikis, and web etiquette
- Web 2.0 Tools – students routinely shape and share their understanding with on-line tools and technologies, including Edmodo, blogs, Stixy, and Voicethread
- Monarch Watch – students assist scientists and citizen scientists across the continent by tagging and releasing monarch butterflies; students track “their” monarchs and report observations of monarch activity to an international database
- Intermediate Book Club – students reflect and share their thoughts about literature with their peers in an informal setting
